The Threat of Intellectual Property Litigation on OSS Projects
Wen Wen, Georgia Institute of Technology
This project investigates how the threat of intellectual property (IP) litigation involving open source software influences the potential costs of adopting and developing such software. This project uses key industry events like the series of IP lawsuits issued by the SCO group to identify changes in the expected costs of litigation arising from such suits. To examine how sensitive users and OSS developers are to these changes, this project wants to study the download and contribution behavior at SourceForge, a large repository of open source software.
