Project Abstract

In our research project, we plan to study open source software developer effectiveness over time. Specifically, we intend to look into "the learning curve" effect to see whether effectiveness can be determined as a function of previous fixes to bug and feature requests. Additionally, we plan to study three other phenomena related to effectiveness: (1) the effect of number of developers registered on a particular project and the number of other projects they work on; (2) whether the percentage of bug and feature requests assigned to specific individuals has impacts on development effectiveness; and (3) whether project category is a predictor of effectiveness (i.e., do projects in some categories have higher overall effectiveness than projects in other categories).
